Kate Montross, Certified Picture Framer

She is an avid hiker who has climbed all of the high peaks of the Adirondacks, White Mountains and the Greens. When she’s not hiking, she’ll be curled up with a good book and a cup of tea. And maybe she’ll whip up a knitted scarf or two in between. Kate has a deep history with making. She can make anything. Seriously. Kate owned and operated both her own jewelry company and the family business specializing in handcrafted flute headjoints.

She is our diplomat. Patient. Detailed. Thorough. Making her an amazing steward of your cherished possessions. Kate is a local, through and through. She was born here, went to UVM and is now helping to prop up a micro business in your neighborhood.

John Potter, Designer

John is a graduate of German Literature & Language and Modern European History from UVM, where he wrote his thesis about memorial culture through abstract- and neo-impressionist art in post-war Germany. Living in Underhill, John can be found running, biking, swimming, and hiking. If he’s not outside, you can find him nose-deep in a book or practicing his banjo.

John is eager to be the friendly face of Axel's and to help you bring out the best in your artwork.

Isabel Maine-Torres, Framing Apprentice &  Art Supply Clerk

Isabel is a recent graduate from Syracuse University, where she majored in Art History and minored in Medieval and Renaissance Studies and Anthropology. From summers spent at field schools and semesters in archaeology labs and museum collections, Isabel has a deep love for objects and their personal histories. When not at the shop, she’s most likely learning a new craft or returning to old favorites. She’s especially fond of needlepoint, oil painting, and cake baking.

While Axel’s is her first introduction to the world of framing, she’s excited to work alongside and learn from the team to best preserve the unique stories in your art works!
